Description:
Credit: This Heart Shaped Tree was originally designed by the artist Elissa Wilkison for the bride Carly Steinberg, for whom I made this ketubah.
I was asked by the couple to make a similar tree with changes, and place the text inside the heart, English reform text and Aramaic Conservative with Lieberman Clause, side by side.
The Tallit has a beautiful golden star of david created by the phrase “I have found the one in whom my soul delights”- in Hebrew – מצאתי את שאהבה נפשי.
Under the tree roots is an open pomegranate.
In Judaism, the pomegranate is a symbol of righteousness because it is said to have 613 seeds, corresponding to the 613 commandments of the Torah. The pomegranate represents fruitfulness, knowledge, learning, and wisdom.
The Torah scrolls on the right symbolizes The Five Books of Moshe. It is the holiest of all books of Tanach.
A Sefer Torah is kept in the Ark in the Synagogue, and portions are read from it publicly on Shabbat, Holidays, Fast Days, Mondays, and Thursdays during prayers, and only in the presence of a quorum of ten Jewish males above the age of thirteen.
